0-6 Medicaid Coalition

This coalition works to ensure children enrolled in Medicaid at birth have stable access to health care through age six, also known as multi-year continuous eligibility. The coalition successfully supported LD 896: An Act to Provide Young Children Stable Access to Health Care and continues efforts to secure funding in future legislative sessions.

MCA recently joined the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce, connecting with local business and community leaders to strengthen partnerships that support Maine’s children and families. The Chamber focuses on:

Building a vibrant and connected regional business community

Supporting economic development and workforce growth in Central Maine

Fostering relationships that advance community well-being and opportunity

MCA actively participates in the Maine Doula Coalition, which works to expand access to doula services by reducing financial, logistical, and cultural barriers. This coalition advocates for:

Expanding doula access through Medicaid and policy reform

Reducing racial and geographic disparities in perinatal care

Elevating community-based and culturally competent doula services

Building awareness about the role of doulas in maternal health outcomes

As a member of the Maine Paid Family and Medical Leave Coalition, MCA contributes to efforts aimed at implementing a comprehensive paid leave system that supports all Maine workers. The coalition advocates for:

A statewide, inclusive paid leave policy

Economic stability for working families during caregiving or health emergencies

Paid leave access regardless of employer size or income level

Public education on the value of paid leave for families and businesses

MCA supports the Maine State Parent Ambassadors program, a year-long leadership and advocacy initiative led by Educare Central Maine for parents with children eight and under. The program equips parents to:

As a member of Mainers for Tax Fairness, MCA supports efforts to create a tax system that promotes equity and invests in Maine’s children and families. The coalition advocates for:

Fair and progressive tax policies that strengthen public services

Investments in education, health, and infrastructure that benefit Maine communities

Ensuring working families and small businesses are treated equitably under Maine tax law

MCA participates in the Maine Gun Safety Coalition to support policies and education that reduce gun violence and promote safe communities for children and families. The coalition advocates for:

Common-sense gun safety laws and policies

Public education on firearm safety and safe storage practices

Collaboration with law enforcement and community organizations to prevent gun violence

MCA participates in ARC-ME, a coalition working to prevent youth cannabis use, protect patient health, and ensure accountability and transparency in the cannabis industry. The coalition advocates for:

Restricting cannabis marketing that targets youth and ensuring clear product labeling

Testing cannabis for potency and contaminants, including heavy metals and pesticides

Funding education and treatment programs to reduce cannabis-related harm
