Celebrating MidCoast New Mainers Group 

2026 Champions for Children - Organization Giraffe Award Winner! 

As a  Champion s   for Children Giraffe Award winner ,   we are   honored to recognize the remarkable work of the  Mid Coast New Mainers Group (MCNMG)  and its commitment to helping immigrant families build safe, connected, and thriving lives in southern   midcoastal   Maine.  

Founded in 2017 as an interfaith collaborative, MCNMG began by welcoming and supporting asylum-seeking families in Bath, Brunswick, and Topsham.   From helping with security deposits and basic needs to connecting families with schools, healthcare, and community resources, the group has   demonstrated   what is possible when neighbors come together with compassion and purpose.  

When more than 25 families arrived in the region in 2019 after being temporarily housed at the Portland Expo, MCNMG quickly joined local faith communities, organizations, and volunteers to help families find housing and begin building new lives in our communities.  

Today, MCNMG continues this vital work in partnership with the   The   Emergency Action Network  (TEAN) , faith communities, immigrant organizations, and countless local volunteers. Together, they connect families with food, clothing, healthcare, education, language learning, employment training, legal   assistance , enrichment opportunities, and cultural orientation.  

At its heart, MCNMG’s work is about more than providing resources.  It is about creating   a sense of   belonging.  It reminds us that children and families flourish when they are welcomed, supported, and given the opportunity to become part of the community.  

That spirit of compassion, courage, and action is exactly what it means to be a Champion for Children - Giraffe Award winner   and why the Mid Coast New Mainers Group is so deserving of   this  recognition.
