collinsletter_web As members of the New England Consortium Poverty Reduction Initiative (NEC) and advocates for children in our state and region, MCA wrote to Senators Collins and King to ask that they and their fellow New England area colleagues take the lead in advancing the President’s bold plan for Early Care and Education. Below is an excerpt from the letters: The President has put forth an ambitious plan that would effectively mitigate some of the damage of the sequester cuts and make high-quality programs for infants and toddlers more available and affordable for low-income families. We  welcome the federal-state partnership to promote universal pre-K focused on four-year-olds from families at or below 200 percent of the poverty line, and the creation of a new Early Head Start-Child Care partnership that provides competitive grants to programs, states, and local communities to expand high-quality birth-to-three programs. We also strongly support continuing to grow Head Start and Early Head Start and the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG). To read the full text of the letters, click on the links below.
