Employer Supported Child Care


Early Care and Education Facts

Based upon a survey of Maine Businesses, conducted by the Maine Development Foundation, published November 1998.

The most common form of employer supports for child care is to provide "a flexible benefit plan which includes child care".

7% of Maine Businesses offer a "flexible benefits plan which included child care However, the primary form of this benefit is in "pre-tax payroll deduction for child care cost". In this form of support, the only employer contribution is in the clerical time required to adjust payroll.

1% of Maine Businesses offer subsidies to help pay for child care
1% of Businesses offer on site child care
1% of Businesses offer guidance in evaluating child care services
5% of Businesses offer parenting education courses/seminars
