Issues For A Children's Agenda


Priorities (in diminishing order)

Health Care
Universal Health Coverage and Access for All Children to include:

  • physical, mental and dental care
  • provide comprehensive health care in the school
  • expand coverage to more children and their parents
  • have a focus for youth to include teen pregnancy and preventive health Care
  • provide equitable mental health care for all children and their families


Early Care And Education
Affordable, quality, reliable Child Care including:

  • after school services
  • universal pre-K
  • support for families with newborns to include education and training for parents as appropriate


Education
Major issues to address:

  • equitable educational financing for all children is major issue
  • support for essential services and programs
  • concern regarding aspirations and safe schools


Children And Youth
Youth issues include:

  • juvenile corrections
  • youth justice reform children in need of services


General child and youth issues include:

  • prevention and intervention to keep children safe from violence and
  • abuse and neglect


Poverty
Child and family poverty should be reduced. Some approaches include:

  • Ending Hunger
  • TANF Increases
  • increasing jobs that pay a living wage
  • increasing Child Support Enforcement


Strategies
To increase long term success for children, youth and families, these strategies are Suggested:

  • develop long term policies
  • create strategic alliances to gain political power
  • support/create collaboration between school/services/corrections and
  • develop a seamless delivery system for all children and youth
