James R. Thompson

James R. Thompson is a public communications consultant. He is a former daily and weekly newspaper editor and served as president of the Maine Press Assn. and New England Press Assn. He served as public information director for the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development and the North Carolina Office of Tourism, Film and Sports Development, and executive director of the Maine Publicity Bureau. He received the Maine Public Relations Council President's Award for lifetime achievement in public relations. His community activities include earlier service as a member of the Maine Children's Alliance board of directors, board chair of the United Way of Mid-Coast Maine, president of Independence Association for Retarded Citizens, and president of the Piscataquis Community Development Corporation. As an adjunct member of the faculty, he taught journalism at the University of Maine, Orono, and advised the Bowdoin College student newspaper.
